7 Must-Knows for Getting Married In Glacier National Park (From a local videographer)

As Glacier National Park elopement videographers, we’ve helped couples plan and capture their weddings here and these are the most important things to know before you get married in Glacier.

Best time of year to get married in Glacier National Park

The time of year you choose will completely shape your Glacier National Park elopement, from scenery to the lightning and overall feel of your film and photos.

July-August: This is the "high" season. Going to the sun road is fully open and it's busy with people. Don't let that scare you away though. We think the best time of day is sunrise (if you're brave) or a few hours before sunset which could be as late as 10pm. The longer daylight hours also gives us more flexibility to capture your elopement film in different lighting throughout the day.

September-October: This is our favorite time of year to create a cinematic wedding film. The leaves are changing color and the air is crisp. There is snow on the peaks and everything is starting to calm down. The road could close closer to mid October depending on weather.

November-April: This is the "slow" season yet it's amazingly beautiful. When we first visited GNP it was in November and we fell in LOVE! It's calm and quiet. The snow covered mountains are amazing. Just be prepared for cold weather!

May-June:This time of year is slower only because the going to the sun road isn't open yet. It typically opens the third week of June. It's a beautiful time of year with snow capped mountains and the green and flowers starting to come alive!

No matter what time of year you choose, each season in Glacier National Park offers something unique. We help our couples plan their day around the best light and conditions to create a meaningful and cinematic wedding film.

We’ve linked below a helpful resource form the Glacier National Park services website that outlines all approved ceremony locations within the park. Each location has its own rules, capacity limits and unique scenery, so choosing the right one is an important part of planning your elopement.

As Glacier National Park elopement videographers, we’ve spent a lot of time exploring these locations. Some locations are more private and intimate while others offer iconic mountain views. Both create an incredible setting for your wedding film and photos.

How to book a ceremony Location in Glacier National Park

To secure your location in Glacier you will need to apply for a permit. Linked below is the permit application. It is $125 to apply for the permit. To be able to fully fill it out you will need to know the location you want, the time of day and how many people (all locations have a max amount)

Choosing your ceremony location also plays a huge role in how your elopement film looks and feels, from lighting to scenery, so we always help guide our couples toward locations that photograph and film beautifully.

How to choose a photographer for your Glacier National Park elopement

We’ve worked with many incredible photographers here in the Flathead valley and throughout Glacier National Park. What is the last step?

All you need to do next is get your marriage license! The application is linked below! You will get this from the Flathead County Courthouse in Kalispell. A payment of $53 is required. Both parties must appear in person at the Clerk of Court office to sign the application and show proof of age (e.g. driver’s license or birth certificate). After your ceremony, the signed license must be returned to the clerk’s office for recording.

This moment, along with your vows, reactions and the quiet in-between moments is something we love capturing on film so you can relive your wedding day for years to come.

What should you bring for your Glacier National Park Elopement?
